Jayapura Police Chief Invites Indigenous Peoples to Make Simultaneous Regional Elections on November 27 a Success

Sentani – Jayapura Police Chief (Kapolres), AKBP Umar Nasatekay, invited indigenous peoples in Jayapura Regency to play an active role in making the simultaneous regional head elections (Pilkada) which will be held on November 27, 2024 a success.

This invitation was conveyed by the Kapolres when giving a briefing in Sentani on Monday (26/8/2024).

In his briefing, AKBP Umar emphasized the importance of the role of indigenous peoples in maintaining public security and order (kamtibmas) during the Pilkada.

He emphasized that conducive security during the Pilkada is not only the responsibility of the police, but is also part of the obligations of the local indigenous peoples.

“A safe and smooth Pilkada is our shared responsibility. Support from indigenous peoples is very important to maintain kamtibmas in Jayapura Regency,” said the Kapolres.

So far, he continued, the role of indigenous communities has proven significant in helping the police maintain security in the Jayapura area.

He also reminded that his party always tries to build good communication through members of the police in each village to ensure that public awareness in maintaining public order and security remains high.

On that occasion, the Chief of Police also gave a special appeal to the community in 139 villages and five sub-districts in Jayapura Regency to avoid consuming alcoholic beverages and drugs.

He emphasized that the use of these substances can trigger various problems that have the potential to disrupt security and order.

“Stay away from alcohol and drugs, because this is the gateway to various problems that can damage public order and security,” he said.

AKBP Umar also hopes that indigenous communities can be role models in creating a safe and conducive environment in Jayapura Regency, especially before and during the implementation of the Simultaneous Regional Elections.

In closing, the Chief of Police warned that his party would not hesitate to take firm action against anyone who tries to disrupt public order or attempts to hinder the smooth implementation of the Pilkada on November 27, 2024.

With full support from the indigenous community, the Jayapura Police Chief is optimistic that the Simultaneous Pilkada in Jayapura Regency can take place safely, peacefully, and successfully.
