FPK: Plan to Move Theys’ Grave Is the Family’s Wish

Jayapura- The controversy over moving the grave of a Papuan figure, Theys Hiyo Eluay, in Sentani, Jayapura Regency, has sparked debate in the community.

As reported by KABARPAPUA.CO, Bernard Manasse Taime, Chair of the Humanitarian Care Forum (FPK), clarified that the plan to move the grave was not an initiative of the Acting Regent of Jayapura, Triwarno Purnomo, but rather the wishes of Theys Eluay’s extended family.

Manasse explained that the current grave location is often misused for negative activities such as drinking, drug use, and even indecent behavior. This condition prompted the Eluay extended family to move Theys Hiyo Eluay’s grave to the front of Obhe Kampung Sereh, which is also his home, as a step to maintain the honor and cleanliness of the grave.

Manasse, emphasized that as Ondofolo (king), It is fitting that Theys’ grave be placed in a more honorable and easily accessible location for those who wish to make the pilgrimage.

Apart from that, Manasse emphasized that those who oppose the removal of this tomb are generally people who do not care about the previous condition of the tomb. He appealed to all parties to respect the family’s decision and not add to the commotion.

The decision to move the grave is also in line with the message of the late Theys Hiyo Eluay before he died, who wanted his body to be buried in front of Obhe Kampung Sereh.

Manasse closed with criticism of those who provided comments without first consulting Theys Eluay’s family.
