Commission III asks authorities to arrest KKB who attacked residents in Yahukimo

Papua- Deputy Chairman of Commission III DPR RI Prince Khairul Saleh asked the security forces to immediately arrest the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) who tortured and killed a truck driver in Dekai District, Yahukimo Regency, Papua Mountains on Wednesday (31/7).

“We urge the security forces to immediately arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of this violence,” said the Prince in a statement received in Jakarta, Friday.

According to him, the National Police must be more courageous in taking action against KKB members because what they have done has exceeded the limits of humanity, and every criminal act must be dealt with firmly without discrimination.

“What the KKB did in Papua was barbaric and cruel. They are terrorists who continue to carry out acts of terror and disturb society!” he said.

The National Police, he said, also had to ensure that dozens of other truck passengers who fled from the KKB in Yahukimo were safe.

On the other hand, he appreciated the efforts of the Polri-TNI in crushing the KKB, while also emphasizing the importance of Polri-TNI solidity and synergy in resolving the KKB violence.

“With firm steps, fair law enforcement, and synergy between the National Police and the TNI, we hope that peace and peace in Papua can be realized soon,” he said.

He also emphasized the importance of law enforcement with a criminal system when dealing with KKB violence in Papua.

“Because what was done violated human rights by killing innocent people. “So not only do they spread terror, they also continue to commit criminal violations,” he said.

However, he asked the Government to also prioritize a social and cultural approach, especially as the KKB recruits many residents, including young people.

“But development, socio-cultural and humanist approaches need to be accompanied by firm law enforcement,” he said.

He added that the Government must provide maximum protection to civil society in Papua, including by increasing the presence of security forces in vulnerable areas and providing assistance to victims of violence.

“We must respect the right to live safely and comfortably among the people in Papua. “It’s a pity that innocent residents continue to become victims of violence,” he said.

He also said, “We cannot allow KKB violence to continue to grow and harm civil society and the country.”

Previously, Head of Operations for the Cartenz Peace Task Force, Brigadier General Faizal Rahmadani, said that KKB killed a driver and burned his truck in Masi Village, Dekai District, Yahukimo Regency, Papua Mountains on Wednesday (31/7).

The victim who died was driving the truck carrying 16 passengers to pick up wood, but suddenly six KKB members carrying a long-barreled firearm confronted him.
