KKB Kills NZ Citizen Pilot in Alama District, Timika Regency

Timika- The Armed Criminal Group (KKB), took hostage and murdered the helicopter pilot belonging to PT. Intan Angkasa Air Service., Mr. Glen Malcolm Conning, (50 years old) a New Zealand national and set fire to an IWN Type Helicopter, MD.500 ER PK, in Alama District, Mimika Regency, Central Papua Province on Monday 5 August 2024 at around 10:00; Wit.

Head of Cartenz 2024 Peace Operations, Brigadier General Pol. Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., when confirmed, confirmed the incident.

“It is true that there was a hostage taking and murder carried out by the KKB against Mr. Glen Malcolm Conning who is a helicopter pilot belonging to PT. Intan Angkasa Air Service. “This incident occurred when the helicopter arrived in Alama District, Mimika Regency, carrying 4 passengers, namely 2 adults (Nakes) and 1 baby and 1 child from Moses Kilangin Airport, Timika, bound for Alama District,” said Brigadier General Pol. Dr. Faizal Ramadhani.

Meanwhile, Head of the Cartenz-2024 Peace Ops Public Relations Task Force, Police Commissioner. Dr. Bayu Suseno, S.H., S.I.K., M.M., M.H., in his statement said that, the information received by witness “D”, the witness explained that, when the helicopter arrived in Alama District, the passengers and pilot were immediately confronted by KKB and at that time pilot Mr. Glen Malcolm Conning was immediately killed by the KKB.

“We can convey that, the chronology of the incident began at around 09:30 WIT, an IWN type helicopter, MD.500 ER PK, belonging to PT. Intan Angkasa Air Service., with pilot Mr. “Glen Malcolm Conning, carrying 4 passengers, namely 2 adults (Nakes) and 1 baby and 1 child, flew from Mosez Kilangin Timika airport to Alama District, Mimika Regency,” explained the Head of the Public Relations Task Force.

He continued, after arriving in the Alama District, they were intercepted by a group of people (KKB) using firearms, then the pilot and passengers were taken off the helicopter and gathered in the field, precisely around the location where the helicopter landed. After that, KKB immediately killed the pilot. The pilot’s body was taken to the helicopter and then burned along with the helicopter.

“We convey that, the pilot’s identity is Mr.Glen Malcolm Conning, date of birth in New Zealand 23 February 1974, gender male, nationality New Zealand, Passport No. LM096455, Occupation as Helicopter pilot belonging to PT. Intan Angkasa Air Service and has an address in Timika,” said Police Commissioner. Dr. Bayu Suseno.

The identity of the passengers is in accordance with the manifest and based on information from the field that all passengers are safe.

“Yes, that’s right, all the passengers are safe, because they are local residents, namely, Alama district, Mimika district,” explained Bayu

He added that the Alama district is an isolated district.

“Please note that Alama District is an isolated district so access there is only by helicopter,” explained Bayu.

“It needs to be emphasized that KKB is a criminal, so a criminal nature will always be attached to him. The news about the plan to release pilot Philip’s hostage, which they said would be released, is just mere propaganda. In fact, today it happened again, right? “The foreign pilot was killed by KKB in Alama District, Mimika Regency,” said Bayu.
