Jayapura- The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) Papua hopes that the perpetrator of the murder of pilot Glen Malcolm Conning in Alma District, Mimika Regency, Central Papua will be immediately arrested and processed in accordance with applicable legal mechanisms.
Head of Representative of Komnas HAM Papua, Frits Ramandey in Jayapura, Monday, said that based on the results of the allegations, the alleged perpetrator had carried out planning according to information which stated that previously medical personnel had served the community at the Alma Health Center and someone was seen carrying a firearm on Wednesday 17 July 2024.
“Therefore, we hope that the police will carry out law enforcement efforts quickly and transparently by thoroughly uncovering the case,” he said.
Apart from that, his party also encouraged the National Police Chief to pay serious attention to the law enforcement efforts carried out, considering that the victim was a foreign citizen.
“Fair and transparent law enforcement can have a positive impact, especially for maintaining good relations between countries,” he said.
He explained that stopping it also encouraged the local government to give serious attention to the victim-witnesses, namely health workers and teachers, including civilians, by restoring their psychological condition through “trauma healing” activities.
“The right to life and freedom from fear as well as the right to humane treatment are human rights that must be guaranteed and are therefore the government’s responsibility,” he said again.
He added that he invited all parties to work together to maintain security and support the police in the law enforcement process as part of efforts to realize justice and peace in the Land of Papua.
