Mimika Community Leader, Arnold Ronsumbre, Calls for Peace Ahead of 2024 Regional Elections

Mimika, September 5, 2024 – Ahead of the 2024 Regional Elections in Mimika Regency, Papua Tengah, prominent community figure Arnold Ronsumbre has urged all residents, both Papuan and non-Papuan, to maintain security and order.

In a statement issued on Thursday, September 5, 2024, Arnold emphasized the importance of unity and togetherness in the face of the upcoming democratic event scheduled for November 27, 2024.

As the Head of the Mimika Regency Human Rights Foundation Against Violence (Yahamak), Arnold Ronsumbre stressed the need to create a safe, peaceful, and conducive environment in the region.

He also expressed his support for security forces, particularly the Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force, who will be responsible for overseeing the democratic process.

“Let us maintain unity and togetherness, respecting differences in ethnicity, race, religion, and social class. Together, let us build Mimika without regard for background,” Arnold urged the community.

Arnold also emphasized that the Regional Elections are a crucial moment for the people of Mimika to choose leaders who will bring positive change.

He appealed to all residents to maintain order and avoid being easily provoked by those who seek to disrupt the democratic process. With a spirit of unity, the elections can proceed safely, peacefully, and democratically.

“Let us show that we are responsible and peace-loving citizens of Mimika,” he urged.

Responding to this appeal, the Head of Public Relations for the 2024 Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force, Senior Commissioner Dr. Bayu Suseno, S.H., S.I.K., M.M., M.H., expressed high appreciation for the support from community leaders in Mimika.

He stated that the Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force is committed to maintaining security and order throughout the Regional Election process.

“We will collaborate with all parties to ensure that the Regional Elections proceed safely and peacefully,” concluded Senior Commissioner Dr. Bayu Suseno.
