MRP asks religious figures to play an active role in creating peaceful regional elections in Papua

Jayapura – The Papuan People’s Council (MRP) has asked religious figures in this area to play an active role in creating peaceful regional head elections (pilkada) in 2024.

Chair of the MRP Religion Working Group (Pokja) Frits Mambrasar in Sentani, Saturday, said that religious figures in nine districts/cities in this area must support the success of the 2024 Simultaneous Pilkada.

“We ask religious figures through the pulpits of churches, mosques, temples and monasteries to continue to invite their people to vote and create a safe and comfortable atmosphere during the stages until the results are determined,” he said.

According to Frits, the prospective pair of candidates for Governor and Deputy Governor of Papua are the best sons of this region, so provide the best support by creating harmony.

“For all people, let’s create cool regional elections so that we can produce leaders who are truly qualified and able to bring this region to development,” he said.

He explained that this regional election was only a short process, so don’t let the social relations that have been built for a long time be damaged because of this.

“Even though there are different choices, fraternal and ecumenical relations within the fellowship are maintained so that social activities can run well,” he said.

He added that religious figures or leaders were at the forefront in conveying the word of God and calling for peace in Papua.

“Religious leaders must stand at the forefront to ensure safe and peaceful regional elections at both the provincial and district/city levels so that all these stages take place smoothly,” he said.
