Jayapura – The body of the late Desman Kogoya, a member of the armed criminal group (KKB) Kodap VIII Intan Jaya, was handed over to his family on Thursday (23/05). The handover took place in the ER room of Madi Regional Hospital, attended by family representatives, local government officials, and community members.

Paniai Police Chief, AKBP Abdus Syukur Felani, S.I.K., through Paniai Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head, Ipda Florentinus J.P. Tegu, S.Tr.K., led the handover process.

“We hope that with this handover, the family can accept it with fortitude and the burial process can proceed smoothly,” said Ipda Florentinus.

Desman Kogoya was also identified as the suspected perpetrator of the arson of a kiosk and YPPGI Kepas Kopo Junior High School some time ago. He was declared deceased on Wednesday (22/05). The plan is for the body to be taken to Bibida District for burial by the family.

A family member, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed gratitude to the police and local government for facilitating the handover.

“We are grateful for the assistance and support from all parties who have helped in this process. We hope Desman can rest in peace,” he said.

This handover process is expected to bring peace to the grieving family and mark the beginning of a return to safety and tranquility for the community. The police also reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining security in the region and preventing similar criminal acts in the future.

“The government and police will continue to strive to maintain security stability in the Paniai area and its surroundings. We urge the community to cooperate in maintaining order and security,” added Ipda Florentinus.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of collective efforts in maintaining security and order in Papua, and avoiding actions that harm the community and create unrest.
