Papua Police Efforts to Build Stability Through Preventing Radicalism

Jayapura, August 12, 2024- Carrying the theme of preventing radicalism and intolerance, the Deputy Chief of the Papua Regional Police, Brigadier General Pol. Patrige Renwarin, S.H., M.Sc., led the coaching activities to overcome radicalism and intolerance for Polri Civil Servants for the 2024 budget year. The event, which was held at the Maxone Hotel Ballroom, Jayapura, presented a number of religious figures and speakers from various agencies.

In his remarks, the Deputy Chief of Papua Police emphasized the importance of preventing radicalism and intolerance within the Polri environment as the vanguard in maintaining the stability and security of the country.

“If intolerance and radicalism are not prevented together, especially by us who are on the front lines as members of the TNI and Polri, then the four Pillars of Nationality that are the foundation of our country will collapse,” said Brigadier General Renwarin.

The event was also attended by the Inspector of Regional Supervision (Irwasda) of the Papua Police, Senior Commissioner Pol. Drs. Yosi Muhamartha, as well as the Main Officials (PJU) and the Head of the Human Resources Section (Kabag) of the Papua Police. The speakers who attended included the Chairperson of the Papua Province Interfaith Harmony Forum (FKUB), the Chairperson of the Papua Province MUI Fatwa Division, and the Head of the Papua Task Force Densus 88 AT Polri, Senior Commissioner Pol. I Putu Gede Surya Putra Mustika, along with Christian and Hindu religious figures.

In his presentation, Brigadier General Renwarin also emphasized the great danger that would arise if the TNI and Polri began to be infiltrated by radical agents or groups.

“Our strength as a state security institution will slowly weaken,” he said.

He also highlighted the common misunderstanding that often associate radicalism with a particular religion, especially Islam.

“Radicalism is not only related to one religion. The many cases involving Muslims have given rise to this misunderstanding, and we need to straighten this out together,” he added.

The Deputy Chief of Police hopes that the TNI and Polri can continue to strengthen teamwork in facing various threats in the future. He reminded all members to be vigilant against colleagues who show suspicious behavior and to immediately take action to prevent the infiltration of radicalism.

“We are the last bastion that maintains the integrity of the nation and state,” concluded Brigadier General Renwarin with a firm voice.

This coaching activity is expected to increase awareness and understanding of the dangers of radicalism and intolerance among Polri Civil Servants, so that a safe and conducive work environment can be created.
