Thomas Ch. Syufi: Civil Society as Victims of KKB Human Rights Violations
Jayapura– Executive Director of the Papuan Observatory for Human Rights (POHR), Thomas Ch. Syufi issued a firm statement regarding the actions carried out by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB).
According to him, what the KKB has done so far is not a form of struggle for human rights (HAM), but rather a violation of human rights itself.
Syufi emphasized that the frequent acts of violence carried out by the KKB in various regions of Papua have had a detrimental impact on civil society.
Many civilians became victims, both physically and psychologically, as a result of the actions carried out by the KKB group.
“Human rights violations have been committed by the KKB Group. The acts of violence they have carried out are not in line with human rights principles,” he said in Jayapura, (12/9).
According to him, violence will only worsen the situation and increase suffering for the Papuan people whose rights should be protected.
With this statement, Thomas Ch. Syufi hopes that there will be an in-depth evaluation of various actions in the name of the Papuan people’s struggle, so that more human rights violations can be prevented in the future.
